Singing samples!

Posted on March 7, 2010 | No Comments

First things first – xmeow.com has a new layout! What do you think? The lyrics are from Becoming Insane by the amazing Infected Mushroom and the images are from here. Awesomeness.

I finally got around to doing this, with ages and ages of “I should” behind me. I used to have singing samples on my website back in one of my first domains, but lost all the files. I’ve been doing nothing today (my basic Sunday) so I finally sung, recorded and added a player plugin. I love to sing, and I’ve been meaning to start taking lessons for a while now, but never have. I see my voice as having potential – it’s ok, but I definitely need to work on my technique.

The quality of the recordings isn’t the best out there – say hello to my camera and YouTubeDownloader converting the videos to mp3s.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This first track is One Day by Matisyahu, duration ~2min. Lyrics for the part of the song I sing;
“Sometimes I lay under the moon and thank God I’m breathing
Then I pray, don’t take me soon ’cause I am here for a reason
Sometimes in my tears I drown, but I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds I know some day it’ll all turn around, because
All my life I’ve been waiting for, I’ve been praying for, for the people to say
That we don’t wanna fight no more, there’ll be no more wars
And our children will play
One day, one day, one day
One day, one day, one day

It’s not about win or lose
‘Cause we all lose when they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood drenched pavement
Keep on moving though the waters stay raging
In this maze you can lose your way (your way)
It might drive you crazy but don’t let it faze you, no way (no way)
Sometimes in my tears I drown, but I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds I know some day it’ll all turn around, because
All my life I’ve been waiting for, I’ve been praying for, for the people to say
That we don’t wanna fight no more, there’ll be no more wars
And our children will play
One day, one day, one day
One day, one day, one day”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The second clip is from North by Majandra Delfino. This is shorter and mainly I just recorded this to sing something else, too. Lyrics for the part that I sing;
“I say I’m leaving but I got nowhere to go
So in your arms I’ll stay, ’till it’s okay
Oh this story is so old
Oh oh, what have we done today?
And will it hurt all of the other days?”

So there we go! I’d very much appreciate feedback on these, since I’ve been thinking about starting those singing lessons as soon as possible. Comment & let me know! ♥

I can’t sleep until I devour you

Posted on March 4, 2010 | 5 Comments

I went to see Shutter Island today, I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it actually was. I’m a sucker for psychological movies, twist-endings and anything that makes me feel distressed. If a movie makes me feel ashamed of looking at it, the better it is. If a movie makes me feel like I can’t sleep for weeks after seeing it, the better it is. If a movie makes me feel like I want to close my eyes and unsee it, it’s the best movie ever. Ok, Shutter Island was not good enough to make me feel ashamed, make me have insomnia or make me want to forget it, but it was pretty awesome anyhow.

I had to re-do my 5th math course exam yesterday (yes, I failed it the first time) and our teacher is such an asshole. Usually exams are a few pages long and your job is to pick, for example, 8 exercises out of 12 and do them. Instead, we got a 4-page exam full of exercises and we had to do them all. I didn’t study normal distribution, so of course the exercises with the biggest points were about that… well, as long as I pass this time! I also have a bunch of history stuff to do as I’m independently completing the 5th history course in this period, and still have to write four essays, do all the exercises in the book and attend the exam. All in all, even though schoolwork does sometimes feel like a lot, I love high school and I love studying!

I haven’t really been shopping & bought myself anything in ages, so I dragged a few friends with me and we took a stroll around some shops today. Besides some makeup, a cute post-it thingy and some jewelry, I got me this baby:

jacka

A brown leather jacket for 10€. I love it! It’s a bit too cold outside to wear it right now, as Helsinki is still covered in snow and jumping around 0°C, but I think I might wear it tomorrow and add multiple shirts under. Small top + bigger top + T-shirt + hoodie + this baby sounds pretty good to me. I just hope spring comes soon and all the snow will melt away. I do like winter, and I do like snow, but right now I’m undergoing a serious overdose of both. This winter has been record-breakingly long and cold and snowy. Enough, nature. Kthnx.

I’m all ready for the weekend already! I’m also obsessed with Devour by the amazing Marilyn Manson; “I’ll swallow up all of you like a big bottle of big, big pills, you’re the one that I should never take but I can’t sleep until I devour you, I can’t sleep until I devour you. You’re a flower that’s withering, I can’t feel your thorns in my head. This is no impressionability, you’re not crying, this is blood all over me, and I’ll love you if you let me, and I’ll love you if you won’t make me starve.” No matter how much time passes, Marilyn Manson has been the love of my (music) life for 10+ years and will always stay so. To anyone who feels like music is a big part of their life, a certain music can really save the day, make you feel better no matter what you’re feeling, make good feelings feel even better, make moments more meaningful and generally affect your life in a huge way. Marilyn Manson has definitely been all that, and more, in my life. Love love ♥

Any music that has inspired you in such a way?

A day in Tallinn

Posted on February 27, 2010 | 9 Comments

This week I’ve been on vacation from school, and apart from partying (so much money lost, but so much happiness gained!) me, my mum & two of my sisters went on a one-day cruise to Tallinn, Estonia. I’ve been there for such one-day trips so many times I’ve lost count, but I still love going, I love the city to bits. In fact, in two weeks I’ll be going there again, as I’ve mentioned before – our senior cruise is taking place the 13th-14th of March!

I’ll let the pictures do the talking, a lot more can be found in my Facebook account here;

tall1

I absolutely love the streets of Tallinn, mostly for the beautiful, beautiful architecture.

tall2

L-R: Minea, our youngest sister; me; Venla, our oldest sister. Aura, the one between Venla & me, is the one who lives in Rome, so she couldn’t join us on this trip : (

tall3

I love pictures like this.

tall4

Left it’s me being a monkey, on the right it’s my sisters & my mum in the middle.

tall5

Again, the beautiful streets & buildings of Tallinn.

Tallinn has a lot of tourism from Finland, mainly because the booze is a lot cheaper than in Finland – I think it’s sad that people only go there for the booze. It’s such a beautiful city. It’s too bad it was so cold, because one of my favourite things is to go to Tallinn by summer and just walk around town for ages. I can’t deny that I don’t take advantage of the cheap alcohol when I visit the city with my friends, but I just find it sad how people don’t notice how amazing the city actually is. I’ve been to other parts of Estonia a few times, but Tallinn definitely has my heart!

After we returned to Finland the same evening, I jumped on the bus and went partying with my friends and once again, had an amazing time. I think it’s so very rare what I have with my friends from school – those people make me so happy. Even on mornings that I haven’t slept enough and really don’t care to drag my ass to school to study Swedish, I get up and jump on the train just for the pure pleasure of seeing my friends there. They’ve only seen me cry once – when I broke up – because I just simply can’t be sad when I’m around them. No matter how shitty I feel, spending a few minutes with them always makes me feel like nothing in the world could possibly be wrong. I’m extremely thankful for the people there, and knowing that they feel the same way about me makes it all the way more special. ♥

So, ’tis all good! How are you guys?

Parties & princesses

Posted on February 21, 2010 | 9 Comments

So now we’re officially the oldest in the school. In Finnish high schools there’s a tradition that when the 3rd-year-students leave for their studying leave before their matricular exams, we 2nd-graders have Wanhojen Tanssit, “ye olde ball”, if you will, haha! Basically we get the chance to be princesses & princes for a day and it’s a huge thing for most students. I didn’t dance, for several reasons that now seem extremely stupid – watching all my girls all dolled up, I wanted to be there too :( but there’s nothing I can do now, so no point in regretting!

On Thursday I went to watch them dance, after which we went for a fancy dinner at a restaurant called Kasino, it’s right by where I live. You can find a bunch of the pictures here, but I rounded up the best shots from that night:

wanhat1

Aw, they’re all so pretty :’>I was wearing the top I posted in my previous entry and I felt like a slob next to those beautiful gowns! Luckily I wasn’t the only one, since Taru and our lovely Italian exchange student Verena didn’t dance, either. It was such a gorgeous evening. The next day we didn’t actually have school, just watching the dance again, and in the evening we hit a club called Onnela in Vantaa, the city where my school is & basically all schoolmates live, to party with the group. That was awesome, too =)

Yesterday it was time for the big party for us 2nd graders. Our school tag-teamed with a nearby high school and they rented a big cottage in Helsinki, hired a DJ, we paid 12€ for tickets and they threw us a big party. (”They” being a few students, high schools organize the ball but not the extra parties involved!) Again, big bunch of pictures here, and a collection of my favourite photos below;

wanhat2

Haha, just ignore my face, people! Yesterday was absolutely awesome if you ask me \o we basically just danced for ~5h and then went to sleep at a friend’s bf’s place with a group of friends. The DJ’s were actually pretty crap, they repeated some songs several times during the night and didn’t finish most songs. We requested some Showtek (my newest obsession) and they only played half of a song! Not to mention that their slow songs were actually My heart will go on and Can you feel the love tonight. I swear. They actually played those songs. Even though doing so makes them shitty DJ’s no matter the circumstances, they did play some awesome tunes as well – Benny Benassi, Ke$ha, Black Eyed Peas, various forms of trance & dance… Me likey.

So a year from now I will have my studying leave & final exams. The thought makes me so sad I refuse to think of it yet! This weekend was amazing, more days like these, please! Next month there’ll be a volume 3 of the senior parties, as me & 31 of our students take off for a cruise & a night at a hotel in Tallinn, Estonia. It’s actually a tradition as well, for all years – last year we had our 1st grader cruise, this year the 2nd grader cruise and next year we’ll be hitting the 3rd grader cruise. The Finnish high school traditions kick ass!

What kind of traditions does the high schools in your countries have?

Let’s have some fun, this beat is sick

Posted on February 17, 2010 | 3 Comments

Title: Love Games by Lady Gaga.

So, with all these parties going on this weekend (I’m still so excited about all this that I literally can’t focus on anything!) I decided I needed something new to wear. I hit the flee market before meeting the lovely Johanna for a cup of coffee, and with 10€ got these two babies:

SDC18342

The left one I am completely in love with. It was 6€ and it’s a bit tight around the hips but I’ll work it somehow – I just love how it’s a basic top but the super-low neckline makes it flashier, I’ll probably be wearing that to the club on Friday. The one on the right was 4€, it’s a pretty long top with a bow in the front Boob bows FTW!

Also, one downside to weight loss: my jeans are starting to look baggy :(

So tomorrow my princesses will be dancing their senior ball. I probably won’t be updating for the rest of the week, I’ll be way too busy, but I’ll be sure to come back with a huge picture post of the weekend! Yay!

Anything exciting coming up?

Boy you’d look so damn good on me

Posted on February 15, 2010 | 1 Comment

Title is from “Chain Reaction” by Ke$ha. I’m currently absolutely obsessed with her album, Animal! I disliked her deeply at first, but somehow I’ve just fallen in love. I keep playing all the songs on repeat, they just make me feel… good. So good!

So what has been going on? First I must apologize for the lack of… anything on this site lately, let’s just say I’ve been a bit caught up with my personal life! But still, I haven’t been up to that much. School has been taking somewhat of my attention span, and I also found out today that I’ve been asked to show up for training at Subway! I had an interview with them last week and on week 9 I’ll be going up to accept a vacant job, hopefully! I’m super excited!

Last Friday my dear Iida turned 18. This year will be such an awesome school year, all my friends from school are turning 18, one after another! It’s gonna be a party year, and once again, I couldn’t be more excited. Anyhoo, the party on Friday can probably be narrowed into these “Best Bits”-pictures:

iida

Haha, nevermind my face! I do have a Joker smile – as so many have told me! I had a blast. I actually prefer home parties to clubbing! I guess it’s the fact that the group of people is more “intimate”, usually they all have at least one friend in common, it’s cheaper than clubbing and… I don’t know. I do love my raves, clubs, bars & whatnot every now and then (…all the time?) but my true love lies within parties at someone’s house. Friday was… awesome.

This Thursday it’s senior ball time – I’m not dancing, due to no partner & motivation to, but I will go see my princesses dance! We’ll go straight to have a big restaurant dinner with a huge group of people from school that evening. On Friday me & some princesses are out for clubbing, and on Saturday there’s the senior ball party of our school & another nearby high school. I seriously feel like a fat kid in a candy store with all this excitement, I just can’t wait for everything to happen already!

So all in all, I’m feeling good. My healing process of the breakup has been fast, I feel a bit cruel but then again, there’s no rulebook for how to feel and what to do when breaking up. I’m happy my own healing has been pretty painless, most of the bad I feel is worrying about him – I should stop that too, I can’t really keep hanging on him like that, can I?

Better blog next time. xo

Body parts

Posted on February 10, 2010 | 5 Comments

I stole this idea from Brandi, y’all go show her some gangsta love. Or whatever it is you sickos do.

So here’s a little presentation: if I could re-build myself from various body parts (maybe I could instead build a robot army of amazingly beautiful women & rule the world by seducing every leading male… Transformers 3, anyone? Imagine an absolutely gorgeous woman turning into a gorgeous sports car!), what parts would they be, who would they be from and why these specific parts? Here are my picks…

bpa1

Mouth - Majandra Delfino has the prettiest pout ever. Full, round lips but they upper lip is still pointy. Ahh.

bpa2

Hair & nose - Adriana Lima has perfect hair. Cut, colour, length, texture… it’s all awesome. I want those locks! I think her nose is gorgeous, too.

bpa3

Eyes – a mixture. I want Katy Perry’s eyes (the size, shape, the lashes, the eyebrows…) with the colour of Penelope Cruz’s eyes. Super dark chocolate eyes are my weakness.

bpa4

Body – Elisha Cuthbert is smoking, her body is absolutely amazing. She’s very slim & pumped, yet still curvy & feminine. Awesome.

bpa5

Boobs – Kim Kardashian has the best boobs ever. Look at them. Just look at them! Huge, round and unbelievably sexy.

Haha! I’d be pretty smoking, huh? I thought about doing this very precisely and with a lot of details, like whose hands I want, whose legs, whose back, whose buttocks, whose stomach… Who knows, they might be a “Body parts vol 2″-post.

Who’d you pick?

Green Day @ Helsinki

Posted on February 9, 2010 | 2 Comments

Everyone knows who Green Day is, right? Since their first EP release in 1988 to their break-through album Dookie in 1994, with over 65 million records sold worldwide, Green Day have made it clear that they will forever be printed on the history of music as. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool form one of the best punk rock bands in the world. You may know them from such songs as Basket Case and American Idiot (from the album titled American Idiot, their best-selling album yet). They’re the best-selling punk rock group of all time.

gday And now the triplet is making their way to my hometown, Helsinki, FIN. With a freshly won Grammy for “Best Rock Album”, Green Day will be performing live in Kyläsaari (Kalasatama) on June 8th 2010, brought here by LiveNation Finland, and the tickets are coming out on February 10th at 9am – that’s tomorrow morning! The tickets are sold for 59€ (no age limit!) each at Tiketti and Lippupiste.

Now, they’ve informed us by saying “Green Day + special guests”, but I still have no idea who the special guests will be. I’m super excited, I want to know! I heard a rumor there might be some new Finnish bands there – I wonder if it’s true? Who would you like to see performing with Green Day? If you ask me, I’d love to see Green Day and Paramore on the same stage. It would be so awesome I can’t even describe it in words! The best thing about this concert is that Green Day have only performed live in Finland once – in 1995! So this has definitely been waited for!

The concert actually has it’s own website here. The venue is located pretty near to the center of Helsinki and it’s easy to get there, and away from there, by public transport – the metro station is located ~600m from the place the concert is held and various buses & trams pass by Kyläsaari.

Will I see you at the concert? Get your tickets from Tiketti and Lippupiste on February 10th!

My favourite outfits

Posted on February 5, 2010 | 6 Comments

Isn’t it a famous quote (possibly from SATC…) that every woman has their one favourite pair of jeans that they will long to fit into years after they don’t anymore? Not that it relates to this post much; I’m showing two outfits that I find are my favourites to wear. As a high school student I usually can’t be arsed to pull up anything special every morning, so I end up doing the jeans + T-shirt + long-sleeve + little makeup-thing each morning, and as I’ve only recently become single after almost 4 years, I didn’t put that much effort into my look on weekends either. I hope that will change now!

But all in all, there’s two outfits that I love to wear anywhere:

favout

Left; KappAhl jeans, plaid shirt 2nd hand, long-sleeve 2nd hand, bracelets H&M. This is possibly the comfiest outfit I can put together & still look good(ish?). I usually have my tits on a show with low-cut necklines, so not only is this different from how I usually look, it just has something that I really, really like. Right; KappAhl jeans, T-shirt 2nd hand, bracelets H&M, necklace Fiorella. I think this shirt has been in an LOTD post in here before, but I can’t get over how much I love it. It used to belong to my little sister, but she swapped this to a cardigan I never wore. First off, it’s yellow, which happens to be my favourite colour and I think it suits me well. It says “I recycle cans, clothes, boys”, and basically it’s my only shirt with a “statement”. It’s comfy ’cause it’s loose, but not baggy, and I usually pair it up with the same long-sleeve I’m wearing in the left picture. This outfit is colourful, which I love, and comfy yet cute. So what do you think? Am I completely in the wrong direction with my outfit tastes here?

Today is the last day of the exam week, I’m having a day off ’cause I finished all my exams. Later on today we’re headed for a bar with a group of schoolmates, and next week the fourth period of my second year in high school starts. Eek!

Tagging all bloggers to do this post as well! I’d love to see your favourite outfits!

My passion for bodymodification

Posted on February 2, 2010 | 8 Comments

This isn’t the first volume of this post – back when I used CuteNews I published a post like this, but consider this a new & improved version of the long lost CN post!

I’m a sucker for bodymodification – specially piercings & tattoos. I’m not into cutting myself up (f.e. the split tongue looks badass but I’m too much of a pussy to do that!) but I am planning on sticking more needles through my flesh. The only problem with bodymods is how much money they take – tattoos are extremely expensive, and it’s not like piercings are cheap either. Not to mention that I can’t stand pain very well. The thing about bodymodifications, for me, is to decorate my body. I find tattoos & piercings absolutely beautiful, and they make a beautiful person three times more beautiful in my eyes. Not everything fits everyone, and finding the exact stuff that fits you… it’s gorgeous.

Right now I have the following bodymods, including one piercing in the left earlobe that used to be stretched to 16mm and three normal piercings in my right earlobe;

bodym3

bodym2

bodym1

First up, a tongue and a madonna/monroe piercing. I used to have a labrette (lower lip) piercing on the left side of my mouth, but I feel way more at home with my madonna on my upper lip. My friends paid for it as a present when I turned 17, aww. The second picture shows my first tattoo, Igor the dragon. I was an idiot and took it in a small cornershop in Estonia in July 2008 just to notice that now a lot of the ink is gone and it’s a bit raised. I guess that when I managed to haggle this and a friends tattoo to 50€, I should’ve not let them ink me there… I will have this covered with another dragon in a few years. Third, we’ve got my baby, the om tattoo in my left arm. I had this done in July 2009. It cost me 70€ and to me it means peace, harmony, intelligence and a connection to my father – he has the same tattoo on the same arm, but on the other side. He had it done in his early 20’s by a friend, so mine is prettier.. haha!

As mentioned, my next big project will probably be the big dragon to cover up the tiny dragon on my back/shoulder. It’s gonna be a present for my graduation, so I’ll definitely make it something very nice. I’m also dying for more piercings, I’ve been craving for an eyebrow piercing for ages but I’m just not sure if it’ll fit me. I’ve also been thinking about taking off my madonna and replacing it with a medusa. Hmm…

Most of all, I want ink. I’d take tattoos over piercings any day. Many people think tattoos have to have a deep meaning, but I disagree. Surely tattoos with meanings are much more important to the inked person, but tattoos can also just be a form of beautiful decoration of the skin. My dragon has no deeper meaning than the fact that I really like dragons & the myth around them. I might get bored of my tattoos (or any future tattoos, for that matter) one day, but I like to live my life by thinking “I’ll worry about that then.” After all, we all only get one life and I want to die knowing that I’ve lived it to the fullest. The worst regret in the world is regretting something you didn’t do. Besides, when I’m 80, who’s gonna see me naked anyway? I’m planning on getting a lot more tattoos as time passes & money for bodymods flows in!

Do you like bodymodifications?
Do you have any? Pics/links, please!
